Spring 2023
O'Hare Airport App
Objective
Design a mobile Flight Information Display System (FIDS) for the O'hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. Develop a visual/typographic system to be implemented in an information system for an iPhone that communicates complex content.

Moodboard
I wanted the screens to not only be legible and not interfere with the user's experience, but I also wanted it to be calming. I decided to use a muted light blue because it is reminiscent of the sky. I also decided to used rectangles with curved edges because of the curved rectangular windows that are on airplanes.

Typeface Selection
The typeface I chose is Calmetta. Calmetta is a contemporary humanist sans serif typeface. It has a high x-height and the proportions are slightly condensed. I picked it for its friendly out-strokes and good legibility.

Establishing Basic Hierarchy
First I organized all of the elements to figure out the hierarchy of information that highlights the most important parts, like the time or destination, so that users can easily find the information for their flight.

Process Work
I experimented with different colors and ways of laying out all of the information to figure out the best way to organize it.
